Long time no blog...

Well, first off apologies for taking two months to update, life has just been a bit crazy and for some reason, I had lost my desire to blog. Not sure what happened, but I'm back!

So, what's been happening lately....well the first big thing is that Simon got a job!!!! He is working in a residential group home for adults with autism. It's every other weekend, and 40 hours straight. So he leaves Friday night and doesn't get back till Sunday night. Not ideal exactly, but the money is for sure helping and it's nice that he can still be home through the week in case the kids don't have school or something. So that's been a huge blessing and he seems to enjoy it. It's an hour commute which has taken some getting used to but it's a beautiful drive right along the coast so can't complain too much!

The kiddos are still loving school and both doing very well. They are now in separate rooms and are both ok with that! :) The school submitted Elijah's picture for an appearance on Ellen Degeneres' Halloween show so that was exciting. The show called him and Simon took him to the studio. He didn't end up being chosen for the segment but his and Annabel's name are now on the list for future appearances so hopefully they'll get called sometime.

While all this happened, I was travelling with my boss for a week on the East Coast. It was an amazing time and I saw some beautiful fall scenery that made me miss Iowa! I absolutely love my job and the sweet family I work for. Things are really going well. I may be travelling again next month to Tampa, Florida so I'm pretty excited about that!

The weather here has still been fairly warm, in the 70's. The mornings are getting cooler, sometimes in the mid 40's. There's have been a few cloudy days that don't get out of the upper 50's but if the sun comes out, it warms right up! It's been strange seeing leaves fall (but not really turn colors), and have it been sunny and warm. But we're adjusting just fine! :)

The Afghan fellowship is still doing well. We actually met a new family that's been attending. We received word through a contact in Des Moines that there was a family of Afghans in the area that were living in their car. So we contacted the leader of the fellowship (language would have been a barrier for us) and he contacted them. They were able to find a place to stay and have attended church numerous Sundays. So that's been exciting. They have missed a few times, and sometimes only some of the family will come, so we are definitely praying for their family! We also had the opportunity to see the teenage daughter of a member be baptized. So that was really special and a definite time of connecting with dear friends. We are feeling a bit disconnected ourselves as with Simon working every other weekend, we are only attending every other weekend. I could take Simon to work so that I would have the van on those weekends, but it's an hour away. So you figure an hour there to take him, then an hour home, then an hour to pick him up, then an hour home. We have decided that the gas that would take would be difficult to fit into our small as it is budget. So we are trusting that God will work something out, and the kids and I just stay  home.

We also had the privilege last month to spend time with our dear friends the Wards. They came down from Fremont for a few days and it was soooo good to see them! The kids had a super sweet reunion, and we did as much as we could together. We also were able to spend time with our dear friend Allie, who attends college about 35 miles away from us. So grateful for the time we had with them!

As far as prayer requests...finances are still an issue. Granted our situation is much better now with Simon's income, things still feel tight and we still are getting by paycheck by paycheck. We are so extremely grateful for everything we have and God has really provided for us in huge ways. Also, prayer for connecting with the church and the Afghans now that we're seeing them in person less. We are trying to find ways to get with them during the week so pray for opportunities and just openness about that. Also that we would keep our focus. I (Jamie)  have been especially dealing with just being really emotional about things, and still feeling a bit homesick. It's weird because I love it here, I'm happy, and things are going really well. But still just have a heavy heart sometimes. Thanks dear friends and family and you'll hear from us sooner next time! :)
